Important information
Proper start-up of a UF system is crucial to prepare the membranes for operating service and to avoid membrane damage. Following the correct start-up sequence also helps guarantee that system operating parameters conform to design specifications, enabling the achievement of system water quality and productivity goals. Before initiating system start-up procedures, membrane pretreatment, installation of the membrane modules, instrument calibration, and other system checks should be accomplished. Please refer to the product technical manual.
Operation guidelines
Avoid any sudden pressure variations during start-up, shutdown, cleaning, or other sequences to prevent potential membrane damage. Flush the UF system to remove the shipping solution before start-up. Remove residual air from the system before start-up. Manually start the equipment. Aim for a permeate flow of 60% of the design during initial operations. Depending on the application, the permeate obtained from initial operations should be discarded. Please refer to the product technical manual.
General information
If the operating limits and guidelines provided in this bulletin are not strictly adhered to, the limited warranty will be null and void. To prevent biological growth during system shutdowns, it is recommended that preservative solution be injected into the membrane modules.

The DOW Ultrafiltration (UF) modules are fabricated from high-strength, hollow fiber membranes, possessing outstanding features and benefits:
A 0.03 μm nominal pore diameter for the elimination of bacteria, viruses, and particulates, including colloids, to safeguard downstream processes such as RO.
PVDF polymeric hollow fibers for high strength and chemical resistance, enabling a long membrane lifespan.
Hydrophilic PVDF fibers for effortless cleaning and wettability, assisting in maintaining long-term performance.
An Outside-In flow configuration for high tolerance to feed solids, helping to minimize the need for pretreatment processes.
U-PVC housing, facilitating the elimination of the requirement for costly pressure vessels.
This module is an ideal option for systems with capacities exceeding 50 m³/hr (220 gpm). Larger and longer, with an 8-inch diameter and 80-inch length, along with an increase in packing density to 10,000 fibers, this module offers the highest effective membrane area among the DOW Ultrafiltration modules. The 2880 contributes to a more economical membrane system design.
DOW Ultrafiltration Modules can be employed in a wide range of treatment applications, such as surface water, seawater, industrial wastewaters, and secondary effluent wastewater.
