Continuous electrodeionization with exceptional water quality and lower operating complexity
The E-Cell™ EDI MK-3 Stack delivers a reliable, continuous supply of ultrapure water for industries where performance, consistency, and uptime matter most.
Using electrical current to regenerate the ion exchange resin inside the stack, the MK-3 eliminates the need for acid or caustic regeneration. With no brine injection and no concentrate recirculation, it provides a cleaner, simpler, and more efficient approach to industrial water treatment.
Designed for semiconductor manufacturing, power generation, solar panel production, and other demanding applications, the E-Cell™ EDI MK-3 Stack combines high-purity water production with low energy consumption and dependable long-term operation.
High-Purity Water You Can Rely On
The E-Cell™ EDI MK-3 Stack is engineered to meet the stringent requirements of today’s ultrapure water systems.
Product water performance
Resistivity of up to ≥16 MΩ·cm
Sodium concentration of ≤3 ppb
Silica levels as low as 5 ppb
Boron levels as low as 0.08 ppb
Sodium removal of ≥99.9%
Silica removal of up to 99%
Boron removal of up to 96%
Recovery of up to 96%
Actual performance may vary depending on feed water quality, operating conditions, system configuration, and site-specific requirements. Product water quality projections and available guarantees can be verified using the Winflows® Design Simulator.
Designed for Demanding Industrial Applications
From advanced electronics manufacturing to high-pressure boiler systems, the E-Cell™ EDI MK-3 Stack provides consistent, high-quality water for critical processes.
Typical applications
Ultrapure rinse water for semiconductor chips
Solar panel and microelectronics manufacturing
Demineralized boiler feed water
High-pressure boilers in power plants
Heavy industrial water treatment processes
The MK-3 helps maintain the water quality required for sensitive manufacturing processes and high-performance steam systems.
Simplified Operation Without Chemical Regeneration
The E-Cell™ EDI MK-3 Stack uses electrical current to continuously regenerate the ion exchange resin within the stack. This eliminates routine acid and caustic regeneration while helping reduce chemical handling and operational complexity.
Key operating advantages
Continuous ultrapure water production
No acid or caustic regeneration
No brine injection
No concentrate recirculation
Lower chemical requirements
Reduced operator intervention
Low energy consumption
Reduced cleaning requirements at higher feed water hardness levels with counter-current operation
With its compact design and continuous operation, the MK-3 can be easily integrated into new or existing ultrapure water systems.
Consistent Performance in a Compact Design
Technical specifications
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Nominal flow rate | 3.4 m³/h / 15 gpm |
| Flow rate range | 1.6–4.5 m³/h / 7–20 gpm |
| Recovery | Up to 96% |
| Operating voltage | 0–300 VDC |
| Operating current | 0–5.2 ADC |
| Maximum inlet pressure | 6.9 bar / 100 psi |
| Pressure drop | 1.4–2.8 bar / 20–40 psi |
| Shipping weight | 100 kg / 220 lb |
| Dimensions, W × H × D | 30 × 61 × 54 cm / 12 × 24 × 22 in |
Pressure drop is based on nominal flow at 25°C. Actual values may vary depending on operating conditions and system design.
Feed Water Requirements
For stable performance and long service life, the E-Cell™ EDI MK-3 Stack should be supplied with properly conditioned feed water, typically RO permeate or equivalent-quality water.
| Feed Water Parameter | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Total exchangeable anions, as CaCO₃ | ≤63.6 ppm |
| Conductivity equivalent | ≤109 μS/cm |
| Temperature | 4.4–40°C / 40–104°F |
| Total hardness, as CaCO₃ | ≤1.0 ppm |
| Silica, SiO₂ | ≤1.0 ppm |
| Total organic carbon, as C | ≤0.5 ppm |
| Total chlorine | ≤0.05 ppm |
| Iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide | ≤0.01 ppm |
| Boron | ≤1.0 ppm |
| pH | 4–11 |
| Oil and grease | None detectable |
| Particulates | RO permeate |
| Oxidizing agents | None detectable |
| Color | ≤5 APHA |
RO permeate helps protect the EDI stack from particulate matter, colloidal material, and high-molecular-weight organic substances that can foul the ion exchange media.
If an open system exists between the RO unit and the EDI system—such as a storage tank or decarbonator—appropriate filtration should be installed immediately upstream of the EDI stack. In general, a 5 μm absolute or 1 μm nominal filter may be suitable.
Feed water requirements vary according to flow rate, temperature, operating mode, and required product water quality. Refer to the Winflows® Design Simulator and the E-Cell™ EDI Stack Owner’s Manual to confirm suitability for specific operating conditions.
